From our base in Pula, Venice is much closer than you think. Venice can be reached in approximately 10 hours of sailing (about 70 NM to the northwest). We consider it an excellent outing, and the sailing is very pleasant with the wind from the south or southeast. 

The information that there are no special restrictions regarding sailing to Venice (no border procedures) and that there are many excellent and easily accessible marinas has put Venice on many wish lists. 

Given that Venice is most accessible by boat, sailing to Venice from our base in Pula is an excellent choice. Can you sail through Venice? 

Sailing is not allowed in the historic center of Venice. Tourists who navigate with their own boats in the Venetian lagoon must respect the navigation rules of the Venice municipality. Navigation within the canals is only allowed for pleasure boats owned by residents of Venice and the islands of the lagoon. Venice has excellent and easily accessible marinas, great public transport like the Vaporetto/waterbus, and water taxis. 

Where to moor your boat in Venice? 

Marina di Sant'Elena is fully equipped and just a 15-minute walk from the central square of San Marco. Or, if you don't want to risk the lagoon traffic, stop at Le Boat moorings on Vignole Island or on Mazzorbo from where you can take a waterbus to Venice. All Venetian marinas guarantee quick and easy access to the city center via the Vaporetto system or water taxis.

Cultural sights in Venice 

The typical visitor to Venice doesn't miss seeing St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. And for lovebirds, they say that you haven't been to Venice if you haven't taken a gondola ride through its most intimate canals. A visit to Rialto also has its charm, as does a visit to Murano. The gondola is the best-known form of transport on Venice's waterways. Today, only a few hundred of these unique, keelless boats remain, and they have long been outnumbered by other vessels. But their elegant, sleek shape and gleaming black paint have made them a symbol of Venice.
